What is the Exploration & Investigation Program?

The Explorations and Investigations is a summer enrichment program for eligible students attending the Renzulli Academy in Hartford, CT. The program is based on the Enrichment Triad Model (Renzulli, 1977). Research on the model shows exposure to exciting topics and areas of study lead to the development of passionate interests, which, in turn, lead to opportunities for advanced independent, and small group investigations suitable for academically talented students. The Explorations and Investigations summer program is based on extending the same Enrichment Triad model used during the academic year into a focused summer program with high levels of advanced content and enrichment.

The program consists of 4 weeks of enrichment instruction and engaging, hands-on activities for students in grades 4 through 8. For the 2014 summer program, students will receive instruction in each of the following disciplines: science, math, art, and engineering. Additionally, a modified version of the Schoolwide Enrichment Model-Reading (SEM-R) will be implemented daily to provide a literacy component in which students could explore their own interests further.

For the older students (grades 9-10) enrolled at Renzulli Academy, we have offered a Future Leaders in Training (FLIT) program. The goal of the FLIT aspect of the program is to help the older students develop general leadership and interpersonal skills that could be used throughout life at school, home, and in their community.
