Books About Science and Social Studies

Outstanding Science Trade Books for Children

These outstanding books with scientific themes were selected by a book review panel appointed by the National Science Teachers Association and assembled in cooperation with the Children's Book Council. Although the list was originally designed for students in grades K through 8, beginning in 2002, the list was expanded to include high school level material as well.

Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People

Books selected for this bibliography are written primarily for students in grades K-8. The selection committee looks for books that emphasize human relations, represent a diversity of groups and a broad range of cultural experiences, present an original theme or a fresh slant on a traditional topic, and are easily readable and of high literary quality.
