Inspired Teachers Scholarships

Each year, scholarship recipients receive $1,000 to support professional development or new technology for their classrooms in recognition of their creative use of visual learning to help their students think and learn. The scholarship funds can be applied towards professional development activities (five categories) that focus on visual learning and technology. The scholarships are open to all educators in a K-12 school or institute of higher learning. A minimum of one year of service as an educator is required. All completed applications must be postmarked or submitted online on or before January 25, 2009. Scholarship recipients will be notified by February 25, 2009.
American Association for University Women

Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields. Grants provide support for course work beyond a bachelor's degree, including a master's degree, second bachelor's degree, or specialized training in technical or professional fields. Funds are available for distance learning. Course work must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States, or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are not available for PhD-level work.

The NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education

The NEA Foundation supports a variety of efforts by teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff to improve student learning in the nation's public schools, colleges, and universities. There are Learning and Leadership, Student Achievement, Closing the Gap, and NEA Books Across America Library Book Awards Grants. Application deadlines are October 15, 2008, February 1, 2009, and June 1, 2009.

The Braitmayer Foundation

Grant Application Due November 15th. Applicants will be notified on March 15th. The Foundation is interested in K-12 education throughout the United States. Of particular interest are: 1. Curricular and school reform initiatives. 2. Preparation of and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those which encourage people of high ability and diverse background to enter and remain in K-12 teaching. In addition, the Braitmayer Foundation provides modest support of activities in Marion, Massachusetts and surrounding communities which will improve the quality of life for residents in the area.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

Established by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Mathematics Education Trust (MET) offers opportunities to expand your professional horizons! MET supports the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the classroom level through the funding of grants, awards, honors, and other projects by channeling the generosity of contributors into classroom-based efforts that benefit all students. MET provides funds to support classroom teachers in the areas of improving classroom practices and increasing teachers' mathematical knowledge. MET also sponsors activities for prospective teachers and NCTM's Affiliates, as well as recognizing the lifetime achievement of leaders in mathematics education. There may be a program that's just right for you!
American Federation of Teachers

American Federation of Teachers Robert G. Porter Scholars Program -This program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members to assist with their continuing education. There is also the Union Plus Scholarship program. The program is open to members, spouses and dependent children of unions participating in any of the Union Plus programs.
Early Childhood Educator Professional Development Program

The purpose is to promote school readiness and improved learning outcomes of young children by providing high quality professional development programs to improve the knowledge and skills of early childhood educators and caregivers who work in early childhood programs located in high-poverty communities and who serve primarily children from low-income families. These professional development programs must provide primarily research-based training that will improve early childhood pedagogy and will further young children's language and literacy skills to prevent them from encountering reading difficulties when they enter school.
The Horace Mann Scholarship Program for Educators

Horace Mann is dedicated to serving the needs of the educational community. The Horace Mann Companies is offering $30,000 in scholarships for public and private school K-12 educators to take college courses. One recipient will receive $5,000 in scholarship funds payable over four years, and fifteen other recipients will receive $1,000 each in scholarship funds payable over two years. Twenty additional recipients will each receive one-time $500 awards. Scholarship money will be paid directly to each recipient's college or university for tuition, fees and other educational expenses. Scholarship applicants will be judged on a written essay and school and community activities. Financial need is not a consideration, but applicants who have all educational expenses paid through other scholarships and/or grants are ineligible. Program is not open to residents of Hawaii, New Jersey and New York.

CCRE uses a comprehensive set of guidelines to access the merits of all programs under consideration. DuPont does not fund curriculum development or assessment, capital campaigns, or endowments.

Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST)

ITEST is designed to increase the opportunities for students and teachers to learn about, experience, and use information technologies within the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), including Information Technology (IT) courses. Supported projects are intended to provide opportunities for middle and high school children and teachers to build the skills and knowledge needed to advance their study, and to function and to contribute in a technologically rich society. ITEST has four components: (a) youth-based projects with strong emphases on career and educational pathways (b) comprehensive projects for students and teachers (c) renewals of existing projects (d) and an ITEST Resource Center.
ING Unsung Heroes

Financial services company, ING seeks to help K-12 educators and their schools fund innovative classroom projects through its annual Unsung Heroes awards program. All awards must be used to further projects within a school or school system. Each of the one hundred finalists will receive an award of $2,000. Award checks are made payable jointly to the recipient and to his or her school. At least one award will be granted in each of the fifty United States, provided one or more qualified applications are received from each state. Of the one hundred finalists, three will be selected for additional financial awards, with the first-place winner receiving $25,000, second place receiving $10,000, and the third-place winner receiving $5,000.

The U.S. Department of Education: (ED) is providing nearly $37 billion this year to states and school districts, primarily through formula-based grant programs, to improve elementary and secondary schools and meet the special needs of students. ED is providing about $2.4 billion to help strengthen teaching and learning in colleges and other postsecondary institutions and over $4 billion to support rehabilitation, adult education, research and development, statistics, and assessment.
