Teachers are also encouraged to check with their State Departments of Education for further information. Review eligibility requirements when viewing perspective grants and scholarships, specifically if the grant is appropriate for individuals or for K-12 groups. Inspired Teachers Scholarships

Scholarship funds of $1000 can be applied towards professional development activities (five categories) that focus on visual learning and technology. The scholarships are open to all educators in a K-12 school or institute of higher learning. A minimum of one year of service as an educator is required. All completed applications must be postmarked or submitted online on or before January 25, 2008. Scholarship recipients will be notified by February 25, 2008.
American Association for University Women

Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to AAUW members, women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields. Grants provide support for course work beyond a bachelor's degree, including a master's degree, second bachelor's degree, or specialized training in technical or professional fields. Funds are available for distance learning. Course work must be taken at an accredited two- or four-year college or university, or at a technical school that is fully licensed or accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Funds are not available for doctoral-level work.

The NEA Foundation for the Improvement of Education

NFIE grants of $2,000 and $5,000 support public school teachers, education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for learning & leadership or innovation. The next application deadline is February 1, 2008.
The Pew Charitable Trusts

Pew works to make high-quality preschool available to all three- and four-year-olds as part of our broader efforts to study and promote nonpartisan policy solutions for pressing and emerging problems affecting the American public. Pew targets areas where we feel we can make a significant impact by helping deliver answers where they are needed most.
The Braitmayer Foundation

The Foundation is interested in K-12 education throughout the United States. Of particular interest are curricular and school reform initiatives, preparation of/and professional development opportunities for teachers, particularly those that encourage people of high ability and diverse background to enter and remain in K-12 teaching. In addition, the Braitmayer Foundation provides modest support of activities in Marion, Massachusetts and surrounding communities, which improve the quality of life for residents in the area.
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

MET provides funds to support classroom teachers in the areas of improving classroom practices and increasing teachers' mathematical knowledge. MET also sponsors activities for prospective teachers and NCTM's Affiliates, as well as recognizing the lifetime achievement of leaders in mathematics education. MET supports the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the classroom level through the funding of grants, awards, honors, and other projects by channeling the generosity of contributors into classroom-based efforts that benefit all students.
American Federation of Teachers

The American Federation of Teachers Robert G. Porter Scholars Program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members to assist with their continuing education.
Early Childhood Educator Professional Development Program

These grants are part of the President's early childhood initiative, "Good Start, Grow Smart." The purpose is to promote school readiness and improved learning outcomes of young children by providing high quality professional development programs to improve the knowledge and skills of early childhood educators and caregivers who work in early childhood programs located in high-poverty communities and who serve primarily children from low-income families.
The Horace Mann Scholarship Program for Educators

The Horace Mann Scholarship Program for Educators is offering scholarships for public and private school educators to take college courses. Maximum award: $5,000. Eligibility: Educators must be employed by a U.S. public or private school district or U.S. public or private college or university at the time of application and at the time the scholarship is awarded, and must have at least two years teaching experience. Program is not open to residents of Hawaii, New Jersey, and New York.

Information Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST)

ITEST is designed to increase the opportunities for students and teachers to learn about, experience, and use information technologies within the context of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), including Information Technology (IT) courses. Supported projects are intended to provide opportunities for middle and high school children and teachers to build the skills and knowledge needed to advance their study, and to function and to contribute in a technologically rich society. ITEST has four components: (a) youth-based projects with strong emphases on career and educational pathways (b) comprehensive projects for students and teachers (c) renewals of existing projects (d) and an ITEST Resource Center.
ING Unsung Heroes

Financial services company, ING, seeks to help K-12 educators and their schools fund innovative classroom projects through its annual Unsung Heroes awards program. Up to $25,000 will be awarded to help K-12 education professionals further innovative classroom projects within a school or school system.

The U.S. Department of Education: (ED) is providing nearly $37 billion this year to states and school districts, primarily through formula-based grant programs, to improve elementary and secondary schools and meet the special needs of students. ED is providing about $2.4 billion to help strengthen teaching and learning in colleges and other postsecondary institutions and over $4 billion to support rehabilitation, adult education, research and development, statistics, and assessment.
