Three Summer Masters Graduate Is GSWCD Teacher of the Year in Ohio

Karen Zaleski, a graduate of the Summers Masters Program at the University of Connecticut, was chosen as the 2002 Geauga Soil and Water Conservation District (GSWCD) teacher of the year.

Zaleski teachers 3-5th grade gifted and talented students at Westwood Elementary School in Ohio. There she facilitates numerous programs that emphasize the importance of protecting the environment. Programs that she has spearheaded include setting up an authentic archeological dig with an archeologist, Girls and Math, and Girls and Science.

Vicki Domonkos, the public education specialist for the Geauga SWCD said that Zaleski's programs are amazing. "She understands the importance of protecting our environment and passes that alone to the kids."
