Looking at Talent Development: An Administrator's View

A chapter in a new book for principals and other school leaders dealing with talent development among English Language Learners will be of interest to people in our field of study. The chapter, written by Nora Friedman, one of our Confratute faculty members, deals with, The Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM). The premise of this model is to encourage students to master a challenging curriculum through the emphasis on their individual interests, talents, and learning styles. This approach brings diverse students to a level of high achievement. The SEM model is unique in that its benefits reach those students who would typically be overlooked within a traditional giftedness program. By shifting the focus from remediation to talent development for these students, the SEM provided enrichment learning for diverse students in a standards-based era.
