The achievement gap between black and white students is a growing issue—in several senses. But schools can't bridge it alone, according to an article in the American School Board Journal: the role of SES and other factors outside schools' domain must also be taken into account:

In Colorado, more students are opting for the Spanish-language GED—the Spanish version of the test saw twice as great an increase in number of students taking it as the English-language test did:
