Preschool Is Key Schooling Experience
Recent research suggests that preschool experiences may have a significant effect on the future lives of at-risk black students: the High/Scope Perry Preschool study found that black students who had enjoyed a quality preschool experience also enjoyed significant advantages as adults: they were less likely than similarly situated peers to be unemployed or have a criminal record, and were more likely to own their own homes and have well-paying jobs. The state of Illinois has taken this research to heart and is working to mandate state-wide preschool programs:
