Volvo Butterfly Award for Child Heroes
Volvo is currently accepting nominations for their Butterfly Award which honors child heroes who have shown extraordinary conscience, care and character in helping others. The award is a $25,000 contribution to a charity selected by the winning child hero and his or her family. The Butterfly Award recipient and family members will also have a chance to attend the final Volvo for Life Awards ceremony in New York City as special guests.

The NEA Foundation February Grant Review
The NEA Foundation's next round of Innovation Grant and Learning & Leadership Grant applications will be reviewed beginning February 1, 2005, with award notification by June 15th. Grants fund activities for 12 months from the award date. Innovation Grants and Learning & Leadership Grants are funded in part by Staples Recycle for Education. The NEA Foundation's grants are available for all subjects, including the arts, literacy, science, and technology. All U.S. practicing K-12 public school teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff at public colleges and universities are eligible to apply. Applications for these grants are accepted on an ongoing, year-round basis.

Lucent Global Science Scholars Competition
The Lucent Global Science Scholars Program, in existence since 1999, is an annual academic competition sponsored by the Lucent Technologies Foundation for students who demonstrate excellence in the sciences and plan to pursue a career in information and communications technologies. Recipients spend a week in Murray Hill, New Jersey, with researchers and scientists and fellow Global Science Scholars at the headquarters of Lucent Technologies and its world-renowned research and development arm, Bell Labs. The winning scholars also receive a US $5,000 award. When an appropriate placement can be found, Global Science Scholars are offered internships at a Bell Labs or Lucent Technologies facility in their home country.

Christopher Columbus Awards
Teams of middle school students are invited to enter the Christopher Columbus Awards which challenge students to explore opportunities for positive change in their communities. Teams of up to four students and a coach must identify a community issue and solve it using the scientific process. Coaches may be teachers, parents, community leaders, or mentors. Teams do not need to be affiliated with a school to enter. Application deadline: February 14, 2005.

The Council for Corporate & School Partnerships is now accepting applications for the 2005 National School and Business Partnerships Award, which recognizes outstanding examples of collaboration between businesses and schools to improve the student educational experience.
