Description:

Rockwood provides a wide range of programs and services for students who are identified as gifted. At the elementary level, students attend the Center for Creative Learning one day per week and explore a variety of real world issues such as world hunger, depletion of the ozone layer, biotechnology, and the condition of rivers and streams in the community. They also have the opportunity to plan and develop creative products such as yearbooks, literary magazines, and musical compositions. "Academic Stretch" is the middle school component of the Rockwood gifted program. Similar to the Center's focus, Academic Stretch engages students in interdisciplinary, thematic studies based on real-world challenges. At the high school level, gifted resource teachers offer support services to identified gifted students. These services include helping students to plan their high school program of studies, to investigate summer and independent study opportunities, and to navigate the college application process.
