Description:

College Station ISD has used SEM as its model for the gifted and talented program since 1991. Enrichment Specialists at each campus coordinate the program for Kindergarten through sixth grade. Plans are being made to extend the program to 7th and 8th grades.
Aside from providing regular times in the resource room for the identified gifted and talented, the district offers the following opportunities to all students: Discovery Days, Mini-classes, Lunch Box Speakers, after school clubs (i.e., Chess, Robotics, etc.), Shoe Box Science Kits, Kids Kits, Rising Star Program, University Interscholastic League, Math League, Destination Imagination, Type II class training, Type III investigations and Product Fair.

Description:

Laurel Mountain Elementary (LME) is an excellent school that cultivates the individual gifts and talents of each and every child through its unique teaching philosophy and Schoolwide Enrichment Model (SEM). Focusing on each child's strengths, emphasizing self-esteem, and encouraging independent critical thinking are at the core of this philosophy and are reinforced through SEM, which has been lauded nationwide as the model to develop the best and brightest students. The components of LME's teaching philosophy and SEM are curriculum enrichment, the Renzulli Learning System, Total Talent Portfolios, Independent Investigation Model (IIM), enrichment clusters, and E-slot.
