In addition to Type I experiences being provided by every classroom teacher in all schools, "Terrific Tuesdays" at the elementary level and "Fabulous Fridays" at the middle school provide other Type I experiences utilizing community members who share their interests, hobbies, and careers.
Type II training is conducted as a weekly pullout for students with high academic aptitude. An extensive mini-course program is offered to all students in grades one through eight which focuses on activities incorporating the higher levels of Bloom's taxonomy. Future Problem Solving is offered in grades 4 and 5 and at the middle school and high school levels.
Type III investigations are offered to any student who has a particular project they wish to pursue. In the past years, several Type III's have expanded into Community Problem Solving Investigations that have received first place awards at the international Future Problem Solving conference. Mentorships are available to identified students at the high school level.

Description:

Identified G/T students in the Falls Church City Public Schools have opportunities for extension and acceleration through the use of learning centers and in-class work with a resource teacher and a classroom teacher in each of the elementary grades. Wherever possible, learning activities and direct instruction is differentiated. Students become involved in advanced learning experiences during the middle grades and may be exempted from certain activities through curriculum compacting in order to pursue individual investigations. Students may produce projects appropriately planned and matched to their higher abilities, knowledge/skills, and interests.
